La Mercè Festival is a week-long, yearly celebration of the patrol saint of Barcelona, capital of the catalans, in September. I lived two times a couple of months in Barcelona, both in the autumn, thus had the chance to see this truly unique experience. The city turns into a war field these days, though a happy one, not like during the more controversial catalan demonstrations which lit the streets for years this time, too. Groups of drummers and dancers flow in rows with fiercely spinning monsters throwing sparks everywhere, firecrackers fly and pop everywhere, thousands of the bystanders flee scared and excited all around - a total bersersk chaos marching through the streets.
