I’ve always been overwhelmed by the atmosphere of unique environments. I love to explore hidden gems and lesser known, secret places, usually the home of underground parties, hip communities and location-specific subcultures. The history of these places give tremendous investigation material. Even in portrait photoshoots on location the surroundings often play a bigger role for view decisions than the model. I constantly searching for these venues on the map like a treasure hunt.
This is how i ended up in the outskirts of Barcelona in 2017 when I was living there, after read about Walden 7.

Skinner, the father of behaviourist psychology wrote an utopist novel, Walden Two in 1948 about a falanster of behavioural engineered tenants, which was science-fiction at it's time. This gave the name for the architect genius, Ricardo Bofill (who also planned Hotel W and the Desigual Headquarters at the marina of Barcelona) to build Walden 7, this spectacular huge fortress-like art masterpiece an hour bus drive out of the city.
Unfortunately? Fortunately? Walden 7 now is a closed world. It is owned by it’s residents and only be visited on guided tours.
