Morning in the gardens of Floriana, Malta, shot on expired Kodak Gold and Ilford FP4 films.
There are these special, memorable mornings in your life.
We arrived in the dark, on an evening flight, the airport transfer took us through half-lit suburbs, dark silhouettes barely seen waiting for the jolting bus. Sleepy and with our hoods pulled over our faces against the sudden sea rain, we stumbled to the accommodation and saw Floriana for the first time only next morning. I don't even remember when I arrived at a place so that it was not revealed until the next day, but this lovely small mediterranean hood of Valletta with parallel-perpendicular streets reminiscent of New York's Upper West Side had miracle lights that morning - and for the most part in the following ones as well. So, at dawn on the last day, I sneaked out to escape the sad duty of packing early and walk around one last time to relive the wonder of the very first day. King George V Garden, Sir Luigi Prezioso Gardens, Herbert Ganado Gardens overlooking the eastern ports of the Three Cities, all shot on analog film for its colors to match the mood even better than digital images. I think we made the best decision in the end, that instead of the touristy shopping center Sliema, we stumbled upon the pile of airbnb raisins in the quiet little Floriana completely by accident.
